Membership Account Activation Now Required
There's been two or three spam memberships getting through every day these last few weeks, and I'm fuckin' jack of it.
I can only detect them when I go to Gmail directly as Gmail marks them as spam and they don't get to Outlook, as previously discussed. Once they get in though, they post crap advertisements as comments. What the fuck they hope to achieve through this is beyond me.
The need for advertising is the biggest blight of the Western World, after greenhouse gas emissions, televangelism and pseudo-geeks who use iPods.
I then delete the comments individually, block the IP address of the fucking memberbot and while they're no doubt using anonymizers making this futile it's still gotta be done, and then I have to delete the membership. It's a tedious and time-wasting activity. Yet the fuckers just keep coming back...
Unfortunately now, any *NEW NON-MEMBER* who wants to join the select 144 in order post a comment on this site will have to go through an extra step to activate their account before they can post anything. I believe this will mean responding to an email to confirm that you are a real person and not a piece script that call itself "OnlineBob@gawab.c*m"... [Current members should notice no change.]
Previously you could register with any old email address, even a dummy one like OnlineBob's, but not anymore.
I'm really sorry to have to do this, but these spam robots are fucking destroying all the fun of this blogging malarkey.
FUCK OFF SPAMMERS!
OTHER MONKEYS SAID
how does this work now?
It's OK if you're already a member, just for new memebers, hips. You made it by a week.
hmm, so i didnt receive any emails to activate my membership.
No T, only new memberships from last night on...
I'd have RTFM to find out what actually happens.
hips? i declare, darlin..that is original!
oh damn..*adjusting my glasses* that was memberships...nevermind *L*
The only manual I have for this software (pMachine) is a more advanced version professional version (mine is the free V1.1) and it says they use a CAPTCHA technique - copy the distorted letter into this box, like Blogger uses for restricted comments. I don't know. I'll have to log-out and re-register in a different browser (so i don't screw up my cookies) to check.
If you never hear from me again, it's because I've fucked up my own pasword...
Sav - sorry for the typo. "new members hips", yes quite amusing. Now move on!
Nope, it sends an email with instructions.
Hope the spambots can't get around that.
I read "new members, hips" as being analogous to "new members, babe" or "new members, hipcat" or "new members, schnookums".. The "hips" is indeed a very original way of making a personal aside to the reader and and I like it, Dad.
