The Bimbo Strikes Back

A great post of frustration and catharsis today from Molly Meek, Singapore's star blogging bimbotic satirist, in tad less satricial mood:

But far beyond economic conditions, it is the general condition of things that irritate me endlessly. General conditions including what you might call the lack of democracy, the lack of respect for human rights, the way the state treats people as fools (knowing that they have indeed managed to create quite a number of fools over the years), the stifling nature of Singapore in general, the fake, faked, simulated openness and dynamism. And so on. And guess what, the basis of all these lies in the supposed economic development that we have.

And then back to satire, the last/best resort of the frustrated intelligence --

Welcome to the Singapore Operating System, Lee Vista. Incompatible software will be destroyed. You will destroy the hardware if you change the Operating System.
The absurdist drama with no artistic value gets played out day after day.
Pity (if there's room for it) the poor actress who can't get into character, exiled from her own stage, on her own stage, as her frustrated tears dissolve the already smudged stars painted on her face. Fireworks.

For your comparison - the very non-satricial:

Free thought - the favorite child of humanism - only undermined authority and had to be sacrificed to new ideals. A rationalist program of social change demanded blind faith and obedience to authority. The enthusiasm for the resultant dictatorship was quite genuine - a dictator is strong only if he can rely on followers who blindly believe in him. Such followers cannot be bought - that would be too simple- but once they exist, there are always plenty of venal people ready to swell their ranks, especially if they have no choice. But every grand idea gradually goes into a decline. Once this has happened, all that remains is inertia - with young people afraid of change, weary middle-aged ones craving for peace, a handful of old men horrified at what they have done, and countless myrmidons [soldier ants] repeating by rote the phrases they were taught in their youth. Stalinist Russia 1937 and Osip Mandelstam.

Singapore 2006 and the mrBrown affair.

OK not a completely fair comparison, but one that I am working on.

The worst part is other countries are trying to emulate LKY. I often think GWB wishes he could rule like LKY ........

Cbina and Russia are already eyeing Singapore off as well, according to Lord KY. Like, they have no experience with authoritarian cunt-of-personality states. Sorry I mean CULT of personality.
