I Hate It When This Happens
Get holed up in a Vietnam Hotel to do a presentation, and you have to share the place with a whole bunch of...
MISS UNIVERSE CONTESTANTS!
My money, if only she would accept it, is on Miss Trinidad & Tobago (not in this video). She smiled at me in the lift... Stoney heart all aflutter...
Ironically, YouTube videos do not always play on either my work laptop ("You have an old version of Flash" -- NO I FUCKINGWELL DON'T!), or on the old desktop at home (no sound), so I will have to take your word for it that video works until I can get home to try it on the iMac.
Remember a couple of years ago, when I was first having trouble with my DENON amp?
I came home one day and it wouldn't turn on? I clicked everything. I replaced the cable. I clicked every on/off and stand-by switch in all combinations and permutations, again and again. I took it to the repair guys in Geylang then and they took my money and handed the amp back 10 days later, saying, "Of course it fucking works, wanker!"
Well, two weeks ago I came home and the DENON amp wouldn't turn on. I clicked everything. I replaced the cable. I clicked every on/off and stand-by switch in all combinations and permutations, again and again. I took it to the NEW service guys, way out Woodlands.
They called me today, after extensive tests. "Of course it fucking works, wanker!"
It seems every coupla years my HiFi equipment needs a $25 taxi ride to stay in tip-top condition.
p.s. Miss Trinidad & Tobago, for your viewing pleasure. (The third girl, Anya Ayoung-Chee)
OTHER MONKEYS SAID
Why not try a little preventative maintenance and just take your amp out for a ride around the island every year or so?
I suggest that letting it sit unplugged for a day next time and then getting the power on again could do the trick as the large capacitors inside might be retaining some power that may not let the power supply reset. Anyway I am not a professional, so I may be just talking shit.
A good hifi is essential to a happy life. Since I bought my new system I have been at least 35% happier on the Sino Man scale. Actually I was even lucky enough to have great sex as soon as I was finished installing it in the apartment.
Good luck to you Expat now that you have your amp back online. Combine it with a visit from the new friends you met in Vietnam and you are in for a great year of the Rat!
Sino: it's after it has been OFF for a few days that this has happened. I'll pick it up Saturday. Mumble, mumble, grrr, grrr.
"Repair" minimum charge, $35.
Taxi fares, $25 x 4.
No music for 2 weeks, priceless. And of course now I am out of town for most of July.
Maybe it doesn't like listening to the Best of the Eagles 24 x 7. It needs a holiday as well.
They have feelings too
I think it was more worried (as was Milos) about my sexual orientation after I kept playing that Rammstein DVD.
