Even MORE Awry!

The pain in the RIF has settled for the moment. So no don't fret my pretty ones, it's not that...

But during the last few days something that has never happened before kept occurring. I was transposing the letters in my room number. I kept writing 459 on my bills and saying Four Five Nine. Waiters, etc... took issue with that as there is no such room at the Semiramis InterCon.

I was actually in Rm 549. Ominous?

You bet.

I missed my flight.

Idiot.

Still in Cairo.

Got the flight-time totally wrong - the appointment time on my phone was wrong at 19:30, my laptop right at 14:30, but I was confused as to which one was displaying it correctly after the discussion we had the other day.

In fact I hardly considered checking it, I just sort of... Heck, I don't know what I was doing, I didn't even think properly about it. I was in La-La land. Fucking idiot. For some reason I assumed I had entered it right. Didn't even bother to look at the ticket, except to check which terminal. Dick!

OK time to dump the PDA and go back to one of those dead-tree things, diary.

This is the first (or is it second?) time in 10 years of travelling for a living that I have missed a flight due to my own (or Outlook's) incompetence.

Given say 4 flights a month on average... 480. So that's 99.8% uptime. 0.2% failure rate.

Still, it took a whole heap of mucking abart - calling to our dealer back and forth ten times or so - trying to get Muhammad, the driver who had dropped me off 30 nanoseconds ago, to come back a find me! At least in Cairo I can get a phone signal, unlike the time I left my wallet in the car in the Hanoi airport (did I blog about that or was I too embarrassed?). Now I'm back at the Concorde El Salam hotel in Heliopolis (City Of The Sun) where I was staying for the business section of this trip last week.

The beds and pillows here are absolutely superb, and there is no disco so I'm not too upset at missing the Nile view.

Next problem, how to get another flight, how to get home. SIA only flies a coupla days a week direct from Cairo and of course tomorrow is not one of those days.

What day IS it by the way? I am totally screwed over by these Fri-Sat weekends.

Meanwhile, the Home Secretary is burning the midnight oil attempting to get me on to an flight to Dubai tomorrow morning, and then connect to Dubai>Sing. She'll call me back at 3am MY time.
