Backache from crap bed and pillows and lack of sleep (hence blogging now at almost 2am) due to disco music coming through the window all night : tick
Selling melons in the City Of The Dead at 2am. (Need to work on this with photoshop later)
Nile sunset from my hotel room
My photos of people on the whole are disappointing - I felt too self-conscious and, frankly, too frightened to point the camera at anyone - if they saw me they'd rush with the "photo 1 dollar" routine. Or they'd just look at me... they'd just looooook at me...
There were some marvellous and horrifying things I caught in my mind's Leica of course, but it has a disposable flesh memory!
Lots more I could and should write up, telling details and well-observed minutiae, but I have a life to live you know... And sleep to get - the disco has finished - it is 2:15.
I'll try and write more, post more (and more better) pictures later.
OTHER MONKEYS SAID
I look like I've got buck teeth!
no you don't, sugar! did you get to the cafe i told you about? sweet dreams
Went to the El Fishaway coffee shop instead, also in Khan El Khalili, the oldest one in Cairo with intricate arabesques woodwork (my photos are crap), twenty million people trying to sell things (I have a detailed list... movie?).
Seen one ancient caffiene imbibement centre, seen them all...
Glad you got all the ticks that you needed to make it a fruitful journey...looking forward to a beer when you get back... :-)
Indy: only missed the Coptic museum and some of the other art museums would have been nice if I wasn't feeling so dodgy and pressed for time. Chatting to a girl in a coffee shop who was doing her Masters on the ceramic tiles of Cairo.
But I'll be back in 12 months probly.
Beer might have to wait another day as I missed my flight...
damn.. the matrix?
Sav: Sorry I blew it - files, not lists.
The Terminator: I have detailed files on the human anatomy.
Sarah Connor: I bet. It makes you a more efficient killer, right?
The Terminator: Correct.
Not having a good weekend: went down for dinner, took my Internet password card rather than the door card.
I am of this world, but not in it...
I was thinking more imitatio christus, il professorio absentio mindo than Rufi... but you might be right, what the heck would I know.
I though Sufis went out of fashion in the 60's with the Beach Boys... oh sorry, that was Surfies. Ha ha. Ha.
