Step In Step Out
Just jumped off the plane and headed into my room - turn on the desktop computer and the system has crashed. It won't get past the boot sequence, says a certain file is corrupt.
It won't boot from my (ahem) original WindowsXP CD, so I can't reinstall. I copied the 'corrupt' file across from my laptop (typing on it now) using a floppy disk and the DOS prompt (remember that?) but it didn't help. It still says the file is corrupt.
I might have to go down and get a REAL WindowsXP disk and reload the operating system. Or maybe it's hardware?
Got it an 9:30 last night, 12:30 on the body clock. Izzy was not in, but her computer was on the table.
Got up this morning at 9am, nice sleep. Izzy's computer is gone and so is she; off to Hong Kong.
You guys gotta listen to that old Weddings Party's Anything song, Step In Step Out - about a couple on conflicting work shifts...
And I step out
And you step in
It is a dance that is bizarre
It is a dance that's wearing thin
And I step in
And you step out
Though we can't find the time for talkin'
Still we find the time to shout...
You and me...
Oh yeah, we're living in dfferent worlds...
Well, the song is sort of similar apart from the shouting and the wearing thin bits and too tired for sex (what's sex?)...
But seriously, if you're wondering about how having the young woman in my flat has changed my life, apart from the odd poetry reading at the Hyatt, I never see the girl.
Well, at least she pays the rent. (That is not a metaphor.)
Tell you about Xmas later. Got some shopping to do. The fridge is pretty damn empty.
OTHER MONKEYS SAID
I'm in Singapore tomorrow for four days. See you sometime during then?
VPS: I have a spare room if you are caught short, Izzy is out of town...
I even have a spare half a bed in my room if you don't want to use her futon...
I have condoms, I have no diseases (no communicable ones anyway), I have sad desperation written all over my face...
You have a boyfriend, damn...
Ah my dear sweet E@L. How generous you are. Would love to take you up on that offer, but I already have accommodation set. Though the thought of you cuddling up to you at night is so very tempting.
See you soonish. Will you be at Indy's for NY's drinks? I'll text you when I get there.
Re: Windows. It sounds to me like one of the files in your registry is corrupt or missing.
Seems to me it can't be a hardware problem or you would never get the file warning.
I'll be in Singapore in about 3 weeks. If you are up for it and in town, how about a bloggers drinkfest?
I purchased a legit version of XP this morning and installed it on Drive E:
Of course none of my device drivers work and I have been all afternoon trying to remember what VGA-card I have. Still no sound however.
In three weeks I will be in town recovering from my foot operations.
Drinks are ON!
Go to DOS and run a CONFIGYS. It should show you some of the inof you are looking for.
Try to import the drivers from the MS web site.
