"God is NOT Great"
Christopher Hitchens too has had his moments of doubt and pain. Not about religion it would seem.
In this book he takes a hefty swipe at everybody who has anything to do this spiritual aberration, from his fourth grade teacher onwards.
If you believe God gave you the gift of reason, you must reject it if you are believe in that same God, which is to say...
We sacrifice the intellect to God. Ignatius Loyola
Still reading, will report back.
Meanwhile also reading Milton Viorst:
Another history of the Arab East versus the Christian West, just what I needed.
I still have Karen Armstrong's The Battle for God and her Short History of Islam and not to mention Bernard Lewis's The Crisis of Islam to get through.
The basic idea that Americans and their supporter missed, according to Viorst and Armstrong, not sure about Lewis, is that the Iraqi War is viewed by Muslims as a continuation of the crusades...
In the "hearts and minds" of the people, it's not about oil or democracy, but which heresy of the original Jewish monotheistic insanity you follow.
However, as a a calligrapher is murdered in Bahgdad, a Malaysian Christian woman is unable to remove the 'Muslim' religion tag from her identity card, and I reread Orhan Pamuk's classic Snow about Turkish religious lunatics, frustrated love, suicide and poetry, I think back to the unGooglable, unfindable story of the stall owner in Baghdad selling western food who was threatened by fundamentalists as this type food was not around in the Prophet's time. "Neither were those Kalishnikovs you threaten me with," thought the stall holder. He was killed two days later, as I recall. By a bullet that was not around in the 7th Century.
Don't ask my opinion about the Muslim mindset right now. Read Christopher Hitchens's opinion instead.
OTHER MONKEYS SAID
Sort of on topic I suppose here is a bullet proof Senator Joe Lieberman handing a death certificate to a poor Iraqi market vendor.

The link works for me. I'll email you a jpeg.
a very good friend of mine once said that half of the quran was rendered obsolete with the invention of indoor plumbing...reformation is needed along with the separation of cultural baggage from islamic teachings...most have forgotten one of the greatest sayings of the prophet "to you be your way and to me be mine..."
Dick: probably the Gahmen blocking my access. Got it, ta. Is that a hand-grenade in his left hand?
Sav: love that line! Verily, the flushing toilet is a gift of the almighty. Yet world-wide penetration of this device is not complete, this I know from awkward, smelly, what-do-I-do-NOW, dangerous experience. Half of the world's problems are due to lack of a reliable supply of soft-yet-strong toilet paper, soap, running water, and the resultant freedom to eat safely with both hands.
Could be a Tazer. That's an actual Arab he's dealing with there.
I still need to read Hitchens book. However I can emphathize with his frustration with the Almighty right about now.........
Problem is Hitchens blows any good in his message by the smug way he delivers it.
As for Muslims-their religion is an albatross around all of their necks-including Malaysians.
